Maluma ha empezado el 2021 cargado de buenas nuevas. Además de lanzar su EP 7 Días en Jamaica, ahora ha aterrizado en la Lista de LOS40 con uno de sus temas más recientes. Precisamente lo ha conseguido con uno de los hits que forman parte de este último proyecto, con el que nos ha presentado su faceta más reggae.
El colombiano llega al puesto 28 con Tonika, su colaboración con Ziggy Marley, el hijo del mismísimo Bob Marley. Es evidente que ésta haya sido, sin duda, una de las canciones más sorprendentes de su nuevo repertorio. Y es que la fusión de reggae y los sonidos urbanos convierte su escucha en una experiencia única. Pero, ¿cuál es la historia del que se considera el primogénito del rey del reggae?
Ziggy es el fruto del matrimonio entre Rita Marley y Bob Marley, aunque cuenta con una larga lista de hermanos. Nació el 17 de octubre de 1968 y desde muy pequeño, como es evidente, comenzó a interesarse por la música. Su padre le daba lecciones de guitarra y batería, haciendo que su interés por este arte aumente con el transcurso de los días.
Su nombre original es David, aunque Bob decidió darle el apodo de Ziggy. Hay dos teorías que explican el por qué. Una, por la marca de cigarro de marihuana. Otra, por ser fan de David Bowie, quien lanzó el álbum titulado The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
Pero hay algo que une a Bob y a Ziggy, y no solo nos referimos a la música y los lazos de sangre. Ambos comparten vínculo con actividades humanitarias. De hecho, el hijo de la leyenda fue nombrado Embajador Joven de las Naciones Unidas tras volcarse con numerosas causas.
En cuanto a la música, Ziggy reúne una larga lista de lanzamientos. Comenzó a interesarse profesionalmente por la música con tan solo diez años, cuando asistía a las grabaciones de su padre con el grupo The Wailers. El salto lo dio en 1979 cuando grabó junto a varios de sus hermanos el tema Children Playing in the Streets. Con ellos -Cedella, Sharon y Stephen- formó la banda Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, con la que lanzó el álbum Hey World.
Años más tarde, en 1988, apostó por el reggae más puro para lanzar un segundo disco: Conscious Party. Con él trajo el hit Tomorrow People. Posteriormente fueron naciendo nuevos álbumes, como Time Has Come, One Bright Day, Joy and Blues, Fallen is Babylon, y muchos más.
Pero Ziggy también ha expandido su trayectoria en la pantalla. Ha participado en numerosas series, documentales y películas. Entre ellas están Cosas de casa, Embrujadas, The Reggae Movie y Marley Magic.
Ahora el jamaicano continúa expandiendo su éxito y abriéndose paso en nuevos y prometedores caminos. Y es que su colaboración con Maluma demuestra que la música no entiende de fronteras ni límites. ¡Larga vida al reggae!
